Study shows AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine effective against Delta variant

By Zoila Palma: AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine was found to be effective against the Delta variant, first detected in India, the company said citing a study.

A statement from the company noted that the Oxford University investigated the ability of monoclonal antibodies in blood from recovered people and from those vaccinated to neutralize the variant.

A separate analysis by the Public Health England (PHE) showed that vaccines made by Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) and AstraZeneca offer protection of more than 90% against hospitalization from the Delta variant.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has since identified the delta variant as the dominant version of the virus.
