By Benjamin Flowers: Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform Henry Charles Usher, went on a tour of government offices in Dangriga, to kick off the 2021 commemoration of Public Service Week.
While the tour began in Dangriga, Usher plans to visit offices countrywide to speak to public officers.
“Our public officers are really the grease in the wheel, they are the engine of government they are the front liners, they are the ones dealing with Belizeans on a daily basis. Without them, we wouldn’t have government, so it’s very important that we continue to acknowledge their work, acknowledge their efforts, and do what we can to ameliorate any of the issues they may be facing,” Usher said.
He noted that his Ministry will be giving out 1,010 certificates to public officers commemorating their years from service. The certificates will range from 10 years of service all the way up to 35 years.
Usher’s visit to Dangriga comes at a time where many public officers are concerned about a recent decision to relocate the offices of several departments being housed on Ecumenical Drive, back to a previously used building on St. Vincent Drive, which they say was vacated because it posed serious health risks to those working there.
