By Zoila Palma: On Tuesday, the Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Carissa Etienne urged Caribbean nations to prepare for the 2021 hurricane season amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Etienne said that in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and preparing for flooding and storms make preparations more important.
“We must safeguard our countries and territories against the dual threat of COVID-19 and the hurricane season,” Dr. Etienne said.
Dr. Etienne called on health authorities to ensure that measures are in place and emergency care and quarantine facilities are functional.
With the 2021 hurricane season being forecast to be above normal, PAHO said that it is already working to have emergency supplies to assist in securing critical facilities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
