By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño, Minister of Public Utilities and Logistics Rodwell Ferguson, and Minister of Youth, Sports and E-Governance Kevin Bernard today received the completed Belize Motor Vehicle Registration and License System (BMVRALS) e-government project from the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The project aims for a national integrated and centralized transport system, streamlining transport and business service and process including obtaining driver’s licenses, vehicle licenses, vehicle registration, traffic tickets and revenue collection by digitizing records and introducing audit mechanisms to ensure transparent, reliable and timely service; strengthen Government capacity in transport management and improve road safety.
The handover was done by Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize His Excellency David Kuan-Chou Chien, who said that the project demonstrates the continued solid relationship between the countries which has existed for 32 years and, he promised, would continue with similar projects and initiatives to contribute to the national economy and welfare.
The Prime Minister meanwhile thanked the Taiwanese government and the bilateral team membership for four years of devotion and effort to make the project possible.
The countries will next work together on a digital inclusion program concerning digital labs, digital literacy and skills and improving Government of Belize portals.
