By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) announced today that the Canadian airline WestJet is set to resume flights from Toronto and Calgary, Canada later this year.
The BTB said that WestJet will offer non-stop seasonal flights to Belize from Toronto and Calgary during Belize’s tourism industry’s high season in November and December and that tickets are already on sale on the airline’s website.
” WestJet’s return to Belize will allow Canadians to enjoy Belize’s tropical weather, the warm hospitality of Belizeans, the myriad attractions, culture, and cuisine that Belize offers as a premier destination in Central America,” the BTB said. “Canada continues to maintain its status as the third-largest tourism source market to Belize after the United States and Europe.”
The news is welcomed by Belize’s tourism sector, which has been trying to recover from massive losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Westjet’s resumption of flights follows the recent announcement by Southwest Airlines that their flights will be resuming later this year, and an announcement by Alaska Airlines announcing a new non-stop flight to Belize back in May.
