Belizean actors make their names in latest suspense/thriller film

Posted: Thursday, June 24, 2021. 1:56 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A trio of Belizean film actors have picked up the opportunity to star in an American suspense/thriller film – with a touch of horror – shooting in part here this week.

Wani Arzu from San Ignacio Town, Cayo District; Kerret Paulino from Belize City; and Oladipupo Ogunjobi, alias ‘Dipo’ are participating in the film under the directorship of Belizean-American Dale Stellie and producer Damion Douglas.

The trio play thugs – Willie, Mick and Earl, along with a fourth comrade – who are known for giving tourists a hard time, but according to Arzu they themselves get into more than they bargained for and Paulino told us simply, “A lot of people dead” in this film. We’ll say no more.

This much more, perhaps, then: Arzu says the casting (80 percent American, 20 percent Belizean) represents a great opportunity for the local film community, while Paulino boasts of bringing ‘the Belizean flavour’ to their roles.

Arzu has a burgeoning acting career, cast by Stellie in another completed film as well as the television series “Double Cross.” Paulino is best known as Randy Diego or ‘Dynamo’ in Belize’s first dramatic television series Noh Matta Wat!, which aired from 2005 to 2008, and Dipo stars in his own self-produced ‘Dipo Shorts’ online videos.

Their current film is in shooting in San Pedro Town this week, followed by post-production with an end-of-the-year date set for release.
