Police continue investigation of Valley of Peace businessman’s robbery/murder

Posted: Thursday, June 24, 2021. 9:47 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police are seeking up to six men involved in the ambush slaying of Valley of Peace businessman and Salvadoran national Vicente Orlando Carranza Orellano, 55, on Wednesday morning.

Orellano and his wife Selfa Ondina Chavez de Carranza, 41, were traveling to the Bird Walk section of St. Margaret’s village, Cayo District to buy vegetables in their white Isuzu NPR goods truck when they were stopped at a roadblock with six masked and armed Hispanic men.

Three of the men approached the passenger side of the vehicle and the others went to the driver’s side. Selfa immediately handed over $5,000 cash but the men strip-searched her.

The men then shot Vicente three times before escaping. Selfa tried to help her husband, she told police, but he was bleeding and too heavy to move, so she ran up the road to get assistance. Unfortunately, Vicente died before reaching the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan later in the morning, and his body is now at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.
