By Aaron Humes: If it were not for the many who have been reaching him daily to ask him to stay on, UDP leader Patrick Faber said he might well choose to walk away if it were up to him personally.
But he will not walk away yet, certainly not at the behest of John Saldivar, who Faber said had been behind efforts in the 1990s to oust Dean Barrow as leader after he succeeded Manuel Esquivel.
Further, Faber says Saldivar is unable under the party’s Constitution to run again for office after having lost three general elections and it was not his bidding to say so.
Permissive as he may have been to keep around others who let the party down, he denies any idea that he was willy-nilly putting people out of the party, though he repeated that anyone engaged in corrupt activities would not be welcome.
He believes that he is best placed to unite and heal the party if he wins the recall, starting at the community and constituency level, Faber said. More to come.
