By Benjamin Flowers: Yesterday, Channel 7 aired news footage of an interview done with Canadian national Jasmine Hartin while she was in custody at the San Ignacio Police Station and Commissioner of Police Chester Williams is not happy about it.
Williams said that, upon seeing the news, he immediately called the Officer Commanding (OC) the San Ignacio Police Formation demanding an explanation. He stressed that, while the media house ought not to have done the interview, the situation ultimately reflected a failure on the officers at the station to do their jobs.
“The police ought to have taken every precaution to ensure that the media did not enter the station and even more so that they did not interview a person, a prisoner, in police custody. That is a total violation of our protocols,” Wiliams said.
He added that he has directed the OC of the station to ensure that the sergeant who was on duty is disciplined due to the incident.
Hartin’s case, due to her connection with British billionaire Michael Ashcroft, has been the subject of many media reports to the point that Supreme Court Justice Herbert Lord, has commented on the matter, saying he disapproves of the media circus following the case.
