By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Brandon Jones won the silver medal in the triple jump on Saturday afternoon in San Jose, Costa Rica, at the Central American Athletics Championships.
Jones jumped 14.89 meters behind gold medal winner Fredy Enrique Lemus of Guatemala who jumped 15.54.
Costa Rican Elías José Ocampo won bronze with a jump of 14.17m.
Invited guest Miquel Van Assen of Surinam won the actual competition with a jump of 15.9m but like the Belizean athletes at the Mexico National Championship last week, he couldn’t win any medal.
Jones won bronze with his second attempt. He fouled in the 1st, 3rd,4th, and 5th attempts and in the 6th try jumped 14.75.
The Central American record of 16.22m that Jones set in 2016 stands.
