By Rubén Morales Iglesias: ‘All vaccines are effective against the Delta variant,’ said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leading infectious disease expert in the United States according to the Medical Xpress.

Fauci, who is the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the Delta variant of COVID-19 accounts for 20 percent of infections in the United States. The variant has spread over the last two weeks increasing from ten to 20 %.

Reports said that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines appear effective against the Delta variant, Fauci said.

However, Fauci also said that the Delta variant is the ‘greatest threat’ to eliminating COVID-19 in the US and that the way to confront it getting more people vaccinated.

The Pfizer vaccine was reportedly 88 percent effective in preventing COVID-19 symptoms from the delta variant two weeks after the second dose of the vaccine.

“When you look at hospitalizations, again, both the Pfizer-BioNTech and the Oxford AstraZeneca are between 92 and 96 percent effective against hospitalizations,” Fauci said.

The Delta variant was first detected in India and has spread rapidly around the world. It is more contagious, and its symptoms are more severe than those of other coronavirus variants said Fauci during a White House Covid-19 briefing.

“We have the tools, so let’s use them and crush the outbreak,” Fauci said.
