Police officer ambushed and shot, survives

By BBN Staff: Four men ambushed and shot a Belize City Police officer yesterday, but he managed to escape the ordeal.

Nowel Muschamp, 50, said that he went to service his licensed firearm about 1/2 mile on a feeder road inside the Port Authority Compound around 3:20 p.m. yesterday. While returning from the road, four men emerged and blocked his exit. He sped off in their direction and one of them fired several shots, hitting Muschamp in the right calf.

Muschamp returned fire and managed to escape.

Police have since detained one person in an ongoing investigation.
