By Zoila Palma: Belize boasts beautiful beaches, majestic waterfalls, rich cultural history, amazing people and finger-licking food.

In Western Belize, visitors can enjoy relaxing at the waterfalls in Mountain Pine Ridge or breathing in the smell of cultural dishes at the San Ignacio market.

1   Looking for a place to relax during the summer, immerse yourself in the waterfalls at Rio on Pools, a majestic waterfall in Mountain Pine Ridge, Cayo

2   The second best place to visit in Cayo is Barton Creek Cave. This is a family adventure and the kids will love exploring the cave and bathing in the cool water.

3   The third best place to visit in the Cayo District is Cahal Pech Village Resort. Located in the heart of the Twin Towns, this hotel overlooks both towns. Its picturesque location and enticing food served with exquisite drinks surely makes it one of the best places to vacation in Cayo.

4   The fourth best place to visit in the Cayo District is Xunantunich Archeological Site. This site is located in San Jose Succotz. Visitors to the site must cross the Mopan River on a ferry then drive to reach the site. Xunantunich has the second largest pyramid in Belize.

5   The fifth best place to visit is the San Ignacio Market. To experience the real feel of the market, it is best to visit on a Saturday. You can enjoy tamales, panades, burritos, pupusas and home made orange, watermelon and horchata drinks.

So, if you are planning to visit Belize soon, be sure to visit this inland destination and explore the history, culture and food.
