New study finds mixing AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccine shots boost immune response

Posted: Monday, June 28, 2021. 2:05 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma: A new study by Oxford University shows that mixing the AstraZeneca and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines will produce better immune response.

The study compared and mixed 2- dose schedules of both vaccines and found that in any combination, they produced high concentrations of antibodies against COVID-19.

Several countries have begun to offer alternatives to AstraZeneca as a second shot after the vaccine was linked to rare blood clots.

The study revealed that an AstraZeneca shot followed by Pfizer produced the best T-cell responses, and also a higher antibody response than Pfizer followed by AstraZeneca.

Eight hundred and thirty participants received the combinations at 4 week intervals.
