Belize Taiwan Association hosts first Belize Taiwan Academic Conference on Saturday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Taiwan Association (BTA) is hosting the first Belize Taiwan Academic Conference (BTAC) on Saturday, July 3.

Earlier this month the Embassy of Belize in ROC-Taiwan announced that through BTAC, Belizean students in Taiwan will be sharing their experiences in Taiwan.

On Tuesday, the BTA said BTAC “will be a platform for Belizeans who have completed studies in Taiwan to share their research work.”

Wani Morgan from Belmopan will present on the “Condition Monitoring of the Toggle Clamping System of a Plastic Injection Moulding Machine Using Vibration Analysis.”

One of the conference organizer’s, Elma Chun from Corozal Town, is presenting on “The Internationalization of Taiwan’s Higher Education Institutions: A Belizean Experience.”

Amelio S. Quetzal from San Felipe Village presents on “The Higher Education Trajectories of Taiwanese Women in STEM: A Longitudinal Analysis.”

Kenya Colliard – Chaves from Esperanza will look at “Perceptions of Why Teachers Feel the Need to Assist Students on Standardized Tests: A look at Systematic Pressures.”

Guillermo Berganza from the Cayo District will do a presentation on “Colonial Legacies and Democratic Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (1982-2018).”

Melody Wagner from the Belize District will touch on “Steelbands in Belize: Sustainable Creative Social Program Development.”

Tracy Quetzal from Orange Walk Town will talk about “HIV Disability and HIV Adherence During the COVID-19 Among People Living with HIV in Belize.”

Solomon Antonio Jr. from the Stann Creek District has a presentation on “The Role of NADPH Oxidase-Mediated ROS in Mitochondrial Status in Arabidopsis Tapetum.”

Lesbia Cruz is also from Stann Creek District and will present on “Influences of linear low density polyethylene microplastics on soil properties, bacterial communities, metabolic potential and enzyme activities.”

Delainie Broaster from the Belize District will talk on “Implementing Smart Farm Solutions for Sustainable Crop Agricultural Development in Belize.”

Delmi Cornelio from the Toledo District is presenting on “Gender, Gender Role Stereotype and Attitude Towards Female Managers: A Comparison Study on Taiwan and Belize.”

And Seidi Quetzal from Belmopan will look at “Barriers Women Face When Entering Politics: A Case Study of Belize.”

All the presenters have completed graduate school and a number of them are pursuing doctoral degrees.

The conference will be live on July 3, 2021, at 6:00 pm in Belize, which is July 4 at 8:00 am in Taiwan, on Facebook and YouTube and should be simulcast on Breaking Belize News, Channels 5 and 7, Positive Vibes, and Belize Government Press Office.

The Embassy of Belize in ROC-Taiwan said opening remarks will be delivered by Ambassador Candice Pitts, Minister of Education-Belize Francis Fonseca, Representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ROC (Taiwan), and an ICDF Scholarship representative.

The Belize Embassy said the conference will also include Belizean and Taiwanese cultural performances.
