By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The inspection of the 500 head of cattle from Belize to be exported to Mexico continues today in Kakabish, Shipyard and Blue Creek by a Mexican veterinarian sent by SENASICA, the Mexican animal health authority.
Principal Agriculture Officer Belarmino Esquivel who had said the inspection would be on Monday and that the cattle would be exported on Tuesday and Wednesday, said yesterday that inspection would continue today and that the animals approved will be exported on Wednesday.
412 head were vaccinated and quarantined in Shipyard and 88 in Blue Creek.
Esquivel said he considers that at least 450 head of cattle will be approved for export.
Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE), Jose Abelardo Mai will be on hand on Wednesday at Shipyard for the exportation. He will be accompanied by representatives from BAHA, OIRSA, the Belize Livestock Producers Association (BLPA), and MAFSE.
Mai said earlier that so far over 20,000 animals valued at nearly $30 million have been exported to Guatemala and Mexico.
