By Benjamin Flowers: The Toledo district recently had 17 newly-reported cases of COVID-19, ten of which were from Midway Village, prompting the Ministry of Health and Wellness to consider stricter measures in the area to prevent further spread of the virus.
Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat told the media this week that teams from the Ministry were down in Midway over the weekend to conduct testing and contact tracing and have determined that the index case for the Midway cluster is a man who works in Barranco Village.
“The teams are down there conducting more tests and I know that additional hundred and sixteen tests have been done and we are awaiting results and the measures we have used before are now being enforced in that village. We are also looking at the possibility of shutting down areas where people congregate in the village,” Chebat said.
There are six churches in the village, all of which were ordered to close over the weekend, given the circumstances. Chebat said that public transportation is also a concern for the Ministry, as there is one bus that moves between the villages in the area. He also stressed that there are various reports saying that passengers on the bus were not wearing masks and neglecting other COVID-19 prevention protocols.
