Detection of possible COVID-19 Delta variant in several districts

By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Health and Wellness is awaiting further confirmation of samples from COVID-19 patients believed to be infected by the Delta, or Indian, variant of the virus.

Multiple samples are being tested and contract tracing is underway according to Minister Michel Chebat.

Belize is working toward acquiring its own technology to identify virus variants but for now it is working through Baylor College in Houston, Texas.

The Minister expressed confidence that Belize’s health system can handle any outbreak of cases of this variety.
