By Aaron Humes: CEO in the Ministry of Health and Wellness Dr Deysi Mendez reports that like all vaccines, the COVID-19 vaccines increase immunity and decrease risks, though not the possibility of catching the disease.
Being vaccinated does not mean you can simply ignore continued guidance on public health issues, she continued.
The Ministry is mounting a three-point campaign: countering misinformation and myths about the vaccine and reaction to COVID-19 itself; ensuring that Belizeans, once vaccinated, complete the full regimen; and setting a target of at least 70 percent coverage of the nation.
Public health education will be ramped up; increasing access to testing, targeting especially remote areas and communities.
The ministry plans to distribute masks and hand sanitizer and going house to house to find potential cases and get them treated – all for free. And those who are vaccinated this month are in line to win a prize – a staycation from the Belize Tourism Board, provided you are vaccinated of course.
CEO Mendez also noted that the message will be distributed via bumper stickers and billboards, from the simple “I am safe, I am vaccinated” to the more morbid “6 feet apart is better than 6 feet under.”
An official jingle has also been created, sung by none other than TR Shine.
