Labour Force Survey: pandemic’s heavy toll

Posted: Wednesday, June 30, 2021. 10:28 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: According to the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) nearly 20 thousand jobs were lost as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, including more than 8 thousand still unemployed persons.

For those still working, they lost an average of five hours in the work week, and were paid $178 less on average.

The effect of the pandemic caused nearly 20 percent of respondents to work fully or partially from home. However, 55 percent still work in offices or factories.

The full Survey report will be released in August.
