Minister of Health: ‘It is now your turn’

Posted: Wednesday, June 30, 2021. 3:01 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat warned that there is a creeping disregard of public health measures behind the recent increase in COVID-19 cases.

Worse, there appears to be a variant of the disease present in Belize, after the British variant was spotted at the start of this year.

Coming up is the announcement of new measures to stem the spread of the virus by Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa, to take effect on July 4.

As of today, the Minister further detailed, all Belizeans over 18 are now eligible for the vaccine, after the phased approach inoculating the most vulnerable since March.

Belize has acquired thousands of doses from various sources since March and more in the pipeline. More than 100 thousand are now vaccinated with at least one dose, and about 29 thousand are fully vaccinated.

“July is the month for everyone to get vaccinated. It is now your turn,” the Minister said as he thanked the various  organizations and leaders who have lent Belize a hand.

Public measures such as handwashing, social distancing and wearing face masks continue and testing remains available countrywide.
