National Hurricane Center monitors 2 disturbances in the Atlantic

Posted: Wednesday, June 30, 2021. 8:36 am CST.

By Zoila Palma: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring 2 disturbances in the Atlantic.

A disturbance with 60% chance of formation over the next 48 hours is being closely monitored.

The broad area of low pressure is associated with a tropical wave. It is  located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the Windward Islands.

This system is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms that continues to show some signs of organization.

A tropical depression can form during the next few days while the system moves west-northwestward at about 20 mph.

Another area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms continue in association with a tropical wave located just east of the Lesser Antilles is also being monitored.

Regardless of development, this system could bring locally heavy rainfall to portions of the Lesser Antilles during the next day or two.

The formation chance is at 10% over the next 48 hours.

The public is reminded to activate their hurricane preparedness plans.
