Asharra Land Lychee and Coconut Farm introduces Lychee BBQ sauce, jams

Posted: Thursday, July 1, 2021. 1:28 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma: The Asharra Land Lychee and Coconut Farm in Cristo Rey, Cayo owned by Carl Brown is now introducing its new lychee products.

Lychee is a small rounded fruit with red skin and a sweet white flesh inside.

You may have seen it at the market or when driving by in Cristo Rey, with the roadside vendors.

Today, Area Representative Alex Balona conducted a tour of the 97-acre farm.

Brown told BBN that since purchasing the farm, he began to experiment with lychee. Since then, he has managed to make lychee jam, lychee bbq sauce, lychee honey and even ice-cream.

Brown says that he employs villagers from Cristo Rey who assist in the harvesting and preparations of the products.

He is hoping to take the products and make a larger-scale production to be able to distribute in other districts as well.

Brown says that the ice-cream is made without sugar and contains the lychee honey to make it sweet.

Brown says that he is now hoping to introduce more products to the market and to teach the process to young people who are interested in learning more.
