Man gets 5 years in jail for raping a 15-year-old girl

By BBN Staff: A man has been sentenced to 5 years at the Belize Central Prison for raping a 15-year-old girl

Emile Torress was sentenced in the Supreme Court yesterday by Justice Antoinette Moore after a nine-member jury found him guilty on two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

Torress was charged with having sex with the minor on two occasions back in November 2018.

He was found guilty on both counts, but his sentences were set to run concurrently, leaving him to spend only five years total for both counts.

The trial only took two days to conclude, running from June 21-22, followed by his sentencing on July 1.
