U.S. donates 1 million COVID-19 vaccines to Ecuador

Posted: Friday, July 2, 2021. 9:44 am CST.

By Zoila Palma: Today, the United States of America send over 1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to Ecuador.

This is as part of President Joe Biden’s commitment to assist with vaccine donations.

On June 10, Biden announced that the US will be providing half a billion doses of vaccine around the world.

The White House had said that it would allocate at least 75 percent of the first 25 million doses of vaccines —nearly 19 million—through COVAX, including approximately 6 million doses for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ecuador has recorded almost 460,000 cases of COVID-19 and 21,605 deaths.

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) urges visitors to Ecuador to ensure they are fully vaccinated before traveling due to the risk of getting COVID-19.
