Carnival Cruise Line should visit Belize in first voyage from US since last year

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Carnival Cruise Line’s first US cruise since last year should be coming to Belize.

CNBC reports that Carnival Cruise leaves Port Galveston on Saturday afternoon and during its week-long cruise will visit Roatan in Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel in Mexico.

This will be Carnival’s first cruise since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Carnival’s itinerary the cruise ship should dock in Belize on the 5th day. That makes it next Wednesday.

Carnival’s itinerary says guests may visit Xunantunich, go ziplining and cave tubing at a private cave, visit the Barrier Reef and snorkel at Rendezvous Caye, or snorkel over the Barrier reef amidst nurse sharks and stingrays.

On Sunday, another Carnival ship, the Carnival Horizon, will leave Miami.

Royal Caribbean Cruises was the first cruise operator to send a ship on cruise from a US port. The Celebrity Edge ship left Miami last Saturday according to CNBC.

Carnival’s next cruise from a US port is the Carnival Breeze, which is scheduled to leave from Galveston on July 15.

Cruise ships were severely affected by the pandemic and have been among the last of tourist operators to be granted permission to reactivate their business by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And they do so under strict safety protocols that have been put in place to help control the spread of COVID-19.,

Cruise lines are on a slow road to recovery said industry analysts due to the international nature of cruises.

“We think the cruise industry will be one of the slowest sub-sectors to recover from Covid-19. Cruising needs not just international travel to return, but ports to reopen, authorities to permit cruising, and the return of customer confidence,” said Morgan Stanley analyst Jamie Rollo on Thursday.
