By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Ana López of the Splash Running Club won the Belize Audubon Society’s Trailblazer 5K at St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park on Sunday, July 4, quite comfortably in 30 minutes and 57.4 seconds. López opened an insurmountable lead winning the 5K by 5 minutes and 10.9 seconds.
The race was run together with the men’s 5K starting at 6:30 am on the Jungle and Lowland Trails at the Blue Hole National Park Visitor Centre, 12 miles south of Belmopan on the Hummingbird Highway.
López won the women’s category finishing 7th overall doing better that 20 of the 26 men in the event. 22 women competed.
Roxana Lemus of Team Westrac Ltd was second in 36:08.3.
The 3rd spot was taken by Jane Champion of Splash in 39:12.2.
Rossy Guardado was 4th in 39:37.0 and Lliani Ordonez of Heart & Sole 5th in 41:13.6.
Marta Novelo ran in 6th in 42:05.9 while Xenia Rauda was 7th in 44:48.6.
Irene Thiessen finished in the 8th spot in 45:53.0 while Ingrie Garrido of Westrac finished in 9th position in 48:52.5.
Delmi Hernandez completed the top ten in 49:38.2.
Victor Figueroa won the Men’s Category in 27:08.3.
The race was organized by the Belize Audubon Society and timed by Total Time Belize.
