By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 434 head of cattle were exported to Mexico on Friday at a value of approximately more than $500,000.00.

“They are paying almost $2 per pound so this represents approximately half a million dollars into the farmers’ pocket,” said Principal Agriculture Officer, Belarmino Esquivel.

349 head of cattle were exported to Mexican company SuKarne from Shipyard and 85 from Blue Creek.

It could have been more, but the Mexican health authority SENASICA only authorized 434 out of 496 for export, 349 out of 408 in Shipyard and 85 out of 88 in Blue Creek.

“Some were pregnant, others had minor scarring, and some, there was some confusion with the numbers, with the ID,” said doctor Joseph Myers, the Ministry of Agricutlure veterinary officer in charge of the cattle quarantine explaining why 62 head of cattle were rejected.
