Heroic police officer helps woman in labor deliver her baby

Posted: Tuesday, July 6, 2021. 6:45 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Police Constable Ruth Lopez took her vow to protect and serve to extra special heights today, when she helped a woman in labor deliver her baby while awaiting an ambulance.

Around 4:00 a.m. Lopez was at her home in Camalote Village when she heard a frantic knock at her door and learned that her pregnant neighbor’s water had broken.

By the time Lopez managed to get the woman onto a bed, she realized that the child’s head had already began to crown, so she assisted in delivering the baby.

The mother and child were later taken to the Western Regional Hospital and are reportedly in good health.

Breaking Belize News commends PC Lopez for her courage and support that ensured the safety of the mother and child. BBN also notes that we contacted Lopez earlier today and in modest fashion, she declined to comment on her heroic effort.
