By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Belize saw its first cruise ship call since last year when the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown global travel.
The Carnival Cruise Line vessel, the Carnival Vista, arrived at the Fort Street Tourism Village this morning, and for the first time in a long time in 16 months, the area was teeming with activity.
The cruise is on its fifth day, having left Port Galveston on Saturday afternoon. The vessel will also visit Roatan, Honduras, and Cozumel, Mexico.
The news is welcomed by all tourism stakeholders from tour operators to restaurant owners, who now have a chance to recover from the economic downturn caused by the pandemic.
As a part of new safety requirements, all members of the ship’s crew are fully vaccinated.
Carnival Cruise Line also has another vessel the Carnival Breeze, scheduled to depart Galveston on July 15.
