By Benjamin Flowers: The Spouses of the CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN) issued a statement today, mourning the loss of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse, who was assassinated in his home early this morning.
SCLAN also notes that Haiti’s First Lady Martine Moïse was seriously injured during the unfortunate incident.
“This news is truly disheartening as First Lady Martine Moïse is a member of the Network and had made significant contributions to the work of SCLAN since its inception. Today we extend sincere condolences and stand with First Lady Martine Moïse and the children during this very difficult time,” SCLAN said.
Following the news which rocked the entire region, Haiti’s government issued a statement saying that the situation was “under control.”
Interim Prime Minister of Haiti, Claude Joseph, said that he was having meetings with the high brass of the National Police to ensure the continuity of the State and to maintain security.
