Belize Progressive Party endorses raise of pay for Governor-General, calls for 10 percent to be restored to teachers and public officers

Posted: Thursday, July 8, 2021. 8:17 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Progressive Party has publicly endorsed the recently approved raise of pay for Governor General, Her Excellency Froyla Tzalam, and calls for the Government of Belize to undo the 10 percent salary cut implemented on teachers and public officers back in June.

The BPP described granting the Governor General a pay increase while cutting salaries for teachers and public officers as an insult.

“…this implies that there should be funds available for the salaries of teachers and public servants,” the BPP said.

The party called on the Government of Belize to correct the injustice done to teachers and public officers as soon as possible.

Last week the House of Representatives voted by majority to raise the Governor General’s salary and benefits. The Senate gave its approval on Wednesday. See full story here.
