Who stole cash transfer money?

Posted: Thursday, July 8, 2021. 9:16 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A shocking claim was made by Minister of Human Development Dolores Balderamos Garcia concerning why the Belize COVID-19 cash transfer program is being shut down in August.

The Minister told reporters that, allegedly, persons in Digi uniform were seen disabling the cameras and alarm system to steal a safe in a building in Ladyville, Belize District.

Faced with that, the Minister said, she conceded that “money is the root of all evil, at least the cash money,” and so ended this temporary project. (The regular BOOST and Boost-Plus programs do continue.)

Balderamos Garcia said she was not aware of reported misappropriation of assistance program funds perpetrated by persons in the Labour Department.

Police are said to be investigating. We will follow up on and report on the status of this investigation at a later time.
