Man retrieved dead from Mopan River in Benque Viejo del Carmen identified as Belizean

By BBN Staff: A man retrieved dead from the Mopan River in Benque Viejo del Carmen has been identified as Belizean.

He is Edwin Brian Isidro.

Sources in Benque say while he was a Belizean, that he was also Guatemalan.

Reports say that Isidro was reportedly swimming in the Mopan River when he was shot by Belize police. A person on the scene can be heard speaking in Spanish on a live Facebook stream alleging that the Belize policemen killed the man because he is a Guatemalan.

Police reports are that the police fired a warning shot. The people on the live stream were up in arms about the incident.
