By Aaron Humes: The Executive reports that Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai has gotten the ball rolling on expanding and restarting agricultural export to our neighbor to the north, Mexico.
In meeting with national counterpart Dr. Victor Manuel Villalobos Arambula, successful arrangements are being made to restart shrimp exportation; expand cattle export; collaborate on the production of soybeans, and possible collaboration on the production of pitahaya (dragon fruit) and soursop for export and support for the coconut and citrus industries.
The Toledo District’s second-largest village, San Antonio, is to see an upgrade in its water system to meet increased demand due to the number of residents there.
Belize is to sign on to a revised Constitutive Agreement of the Mundo Maya Organization, dedicated to the promotion of tourism and the Maya culture among Central American nations. Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Anthony Mahler, will sign on Belize’s behalf.
And, to ensure products made in Belize do not have their good names stolen or tarnished, the Belize Intellectual Property Office (BELIPO) is approved to adopt the Harmonized Database of acceptable goods and services for the classification of trademark applications.
