Ministry of Youth says it is outraged that a minor has died at hands of the Police

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Youth says it outraged at “the disturbing news that a minor has died, allegedly at the hands of a member of our Belize Police Department.”

“It is disheartening to learn of the killing of the minor, without apparent cause or justification,” said Minister of Youth Kevin Bernard in a press release by the Ministry of Youth.

“This fourteen-year-old had his entire life ahead of him, I am deeply disturbed by this news, I join with the rest of the country in a call for a proper investigation to be carried out and for justice to be served on behalf of Laddie Gillett,” said Minister Bernard,

Gillett was shot to death last night in Placencia when he and others reportedly dispersed when the police were called to a resort from where a call had been made about suspicious people in the area.

The statement from the Ministry of Youth ends by saying that the Minister, members of staff and the Department of Youth “express our regret and condolences to the family and loved ones of Laddie Gillett.”
