Rubén Morales Iglesias: “The United Democratic Party calls on the Police Department to immediately launch a full and objective investigation into this tragic incident,” said a press release from the United Democratic Party after a minor was shot to dead on Wednesday night in Placencia.
The UDP said it was “deeply saddened and troubled” on hearing about the death of the minor at the hands of the police “in the peaceful southern village of Placencia in the Stann Creek District.”
“Our Party Leader, Honorable Patrick Faber, and the UDP express deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased minor, 14-year-old Laddie Gillett, who it is reported was a student of Chaa Creek in the Cayo District,” added the UDP release.
The UDP release recounts that “preliminary reports indicate that the minor was running from the Police when he was fatally shot. The Police’s own report states that the victim was “evading the police” when the bullet was fired.”
The United Democratic Party said it calls on the Commissioner of Police “to take all necessary steps to ensure that in executing their essential duties and function, its officers at all levels refrain from employing unjustifiable force.”
