By Rubén Morales Iglesias: For a while, it was on, then it was off, but finally, the Benque 10K race came on board for Saturday, July 17.
Normally Benque would be having its July Fiesta but people get up early anyway and enough runners should be on hand at 5:30 am to the start of the race at Centennial Park.
From the park, the race will go to the Belize-Guatemala border, then to San Jose Succotz, and finish at Centennial Park.
So far, according to Ricardo Salazar of Total Time who is organizing the race, 40 of the expected 50 have signed up.
The following is the route according to Salazar.
– Start at Centennial Park
– Right turn on the George Price Highway toward the Belize-Guatemala border
– Go around the parking lot in front of the Immigration Building
– Return to George Price Highway
– Continue on the George Price Highway entering San José Succotz
– Continue parallel the Mopan River until the river breaks away from the highway
– Take a U-Turn returning to Benque Viejo del Carmen
– Continue straight entering George Street
– Turn left on Cemetery Street
– Finish at Centennial Park
