By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Concerned citizens of Placencia Village are making demands of the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams so that tragic deaths like that of Laddie Gillett never happens again.
Fourteen-year-old Laddie Gillet was shot to death on Wednesday night in Placencia when he reportedly ran away along with others when police showed up at a resort.
“We demand justice for Laddie Gillett and for his friend who was reportedly assaulted by another police officer,” said the press release.
The Concerned citizens of Placencia said that they are making demands to the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams and the Officer in charge in Placencia, ASP Alma Mortis so that such a tragic death “NEVER happens again.”
“We demand that police countrywide be given intensive training on peaceful conflict resolution and diversity training including addressing racial and gender-based profiling in police work.”
The Concerned citizens of Placencia Village said that their specific demands are:
“Intensive training of police officers in Placencia and countrywide on:
– Peaceful Conflict Resolution. Firing a weapon at a fellow citizen or using violence of any kind against another person should be the last resort of any police officer.
– Diversity training including addressing racial and gender-based profiling in police work.”
