BREAKING: Active cases rise past 300 after weekend spike

Posted: Monday, July 19, 2021. 5:17 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Today there are as many active cases of COVID-19 (332) as there have been deaths so far attributed to the virus.

Fortunately, no death was reported this weekend according to the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

But that is about as good as it gets, with the number of recoveries, 55, outpaced by the number of new cases, 89 since Friday, or nearly 30 every day.

The three-day positivity rate is nearly 4 percent, not ideal as the country tries to reopen its economy. 474 additional persons are under investigation.

Eight persons are admitted to hospital in connection with the virus and one is in intensive care.

The number of total confirmed cases is approaching 14 thousand but not badly outstripping the number of recoveries. Just under 8.5 percent of the population has been infected and 95 percent of those infected have recovered.
