Candlelight vigil being held in San Ignacio for Laddie Gillett

Posted: Monday, July 19, 2021. 7:51 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: A candlelight vigil for Laddie Gillett is underway tonight at the Welcome Center in San Ignacio.

The vigil began at 7:00 pm and is organized by a group of concerned youths led by Elmer Gonzales and including past Queen of the Bay for the Twin Towns, Ms. Meesha Magdaleno.

A group of some 100 youths gathered at the Welcome Center for the candlelight vigil. The event includes speeches, songs and testimonials. To honor the life of Laddie Gillett, the group will observe a moment of silence and the participants will all sit on the floor.

In an exclusive interview with Breaking Belize News, organizer Elmer Gonzales said that event is being held to “remember the young and bright life of Laddie Gillett who was tragically murdered by someone who us young people are supposed to look up to for protection and to ensure a sense of security”.

The candlelight vigil will conclude with a mini protest and the playing of sentimental music at the Welcome Center.
