By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Derrick Chavarria of 501 Valvoline Cycling Team won the San Ignacio-Santa Elena cycling race, riding in alone on Sunday, July 18, 2021, riding in alone after 1 hour, 51 minutes.
The 45.6-mile race went 12 laps on the circuit between Matus Autoparts on La Loma Luz Boulevard in Santa Elena and the intersection near Sacred Heart College in San Ignacio. Each lap is approximately 3.8 miles said organizer Zahir Figueroa.
Figueroa thanked Tariq Aguilar Cano of Cano’s Courier Services “for always sponsoring our races.”
Chavarria ran the race 42 seconds faster than teammate Oscar Quiroz who won it last week in 1 hour, 51 minutes and 42 seconds.
Renan Codd of G-Flow rode in second while Myron Muñoz of 501 Valvoline was third.
Jyven Gonzalez of 501 Valvoline finished 4th and Shawn Codd of G-Flow took 5th.
Chavarria and Renan Codd were also the top two in the Junior Category.
Tevin Chaplin won the Amateur A Category followed by Jamid Martinez in second, and Hôllîster Baptist in third.
