By Rubén Morales Iglesias: This comes after the 6th place at Winfield on Sunday and 8th on Saturday at the Glen Ellyn.Belizean Oscar Quiroz of 501 Valvoline Cycling Team rode in 2nd on Monday in the Category 2 Elite race at the Mundelain Grand Prix at Mundelein, Illinois on Day 4 of the 10-day Intelligentsia Cup in and around Chicago.
Leticia Westby of the Cycling Federation of Belize reported on a Facebook livestream from Chicago that Wasani Castro of Project Belize finished in 5th position on Monday’s criterium. Wasani was 7th on Sunday and 31st on Saturday.
Giovanni Lovell of G-Flow finished a few seconds later in the 28th position according to road-results.com.
“We can only get better,” Oscar said. “A lot of tactics here, not just riding strong.”
Quite a number of Belizeans are out supporting the Belizean riders in Chicago.
Earlier today, Kaya Cattouse of the C-RAY D. Banner cycling team also finished 2nd in the Women’s Category 2/3. On Saturday, Kaya took 3rd place at Glen Ellyn and on Sunday at Winfield, she finished 8th.
Following Sunday’s win in the Men’s Category 3, on Monday, Jafari Castro of Project BZE finished 5th in the Intelligentsia Cup Day 4 in the Mundelain Grand Prix.
Project BZE has been doing well in the United States Criteriums recording three wins up to date. Prior to Jafari’s win on Sunday, his brother Wasani won the Sunny King Criterium in Piedmont, Alabama and before that Henry Li had won the Tulsa Tough.
Unfortunately, Li did not finish Monday’s criterium.
Byron Pope of Westrac Cycling, who competed in the Category 3 on Monday finished 41st.
In Category 4, an 8th Belizean cyclist Deandy Ordone, riding for Ordonez Bike Shop, finished in the 30th position.
