Oscar Quiroz, Kaya Cattouse take 3rd place on Day 5 of Intelligentsia Cup in Chicago, United States

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizeans Oscar Quiroz and Kaya Cattouse finished in 3rd place in their respective criteriums as they continue their good performance in Day 5 of the 10-day Intelligentsia Cup in Illinois in the United States.

Oscar of the 50 Valvoline Cycling Team was 3rd on Tuesday in the Men’s Category 2 Elite criterium in the Lombard Cycling Classic in Lombard, Illinois.

After multiple attacks, a massive field sprint saw Ethan Welling win the criterium followed by George Jordan and Oscar.

Oscar is continuing a good run which saw him gain 2nd place on Monday in the Mundelein Grand Prix at Mundelein, Illinois. On Saturday and Sunday as he was getting acclimatized, he finished 8th and 6th respectively at Glen Ellyn and Winfield.

Kaya of the C-RAY D. Banner Cycling Team gained the 3rd spot in the Women’s Category 2/3 on Tuesday at the Lombard as well.

Mallory MacRostie took the criterium in a breakaway finish ahead of Amy Mcclintock and Kaya.

This is the third podium finish for Kaya as she was 3rd on Day 2 at Lake Ellyn, 2nd on Day 4 at Mundelein, and now 3rd again at Lombard.

Riding with Oscar in the Men’s Category 2 Elite, Wasani Castro of Project BZE was 19th while Geovanni Lovell of G-Flow Cycling Team was 23rd.

In the Men’s Cat 3 criterium, Project BZE’s Jafari Castro was 8th. The other Project BZE rider, Henry Li was 33rd and Westrac’s Byron Pope finished 34th.

In the Category 4 race, Deandy Ordonez of Ordonez Bike Shop was 30th.

Wednesday is rest day.

Then, the Intelligentsia Cup continues with The South Chicago Kermesse Road Race in South Chicago on Thursday, July 22; the Dennis Jurs Memorial Race at Elgin on Friday, July 23; The Northwestern Medicine Lake Bluff Criterium at Lake Bluff on Saturday, July 24; and closes off with the William Blair Grand Prix at Goose Island Beer Company, Fulton St. in Chicago on Sunday, July 25.
