Cabinet approves new curfew hours and additional restrictions due to rising cases

By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize is moving to extend the curfew hours and put in place additional restrictions due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases being detected in Belize.

At yesterday’s cabinet meeting, a report was presented by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat, on the rising number of COVID-19 cases being detected. As a result Cabinet decided to implement new measures and restrictions which will come into effect on Sunday, 25th July 2021.

The increase in cases is particularly notable in the Toledo district where 3 villages remain on lockdown and the Ministry of Health asserts that churches and places of worship are largely responsible for the community spread in these areas.

In an interview earlier today with Love FM, Minister Michel Chebat indicated that the new curfew hours will be from nine p.m. to four a.m. on the weekdays. Whether this will apply to weekends as well is uncertain at this time.
