Experts believe that the world is moving further away from ‘the end’ of the COVID-19 pandemic

Posted: Wednesday, July 21, 2021. 11:28 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Yahoo News reports that experts in the area of infectious diseases, such as World Health Organization (WHO) epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove and National Institutes of Health Director, Francis Collins, believe that the world has taken a lax approach in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, which is prolonging the effects globally.

“We’re getting further away from the end than we should be,” Van Kerkhove told the Washington Post. “We’re in a bad place right now globally.”

Van Kerkhove’s dismay comes from the fact that COVID-19 cases in the United States and elsewhere are on the rise, much of which is attributed to the presence of the more contagious Delta variant of the virus. Deaths relating to the virus worldwide have also exceeded 4 million and continues to climb. Van Kerkhove also pointed to stalling vaccine rollouts as a major issue in getting over the pandemic.

“It’s like we’ve been to this movie several times in the last year and a half, and it doesn’t end well,” Collins told the Post. “Somehow, we’re running the tape again. It’s all predictable.”

In Belize, the number of active cases and reported cases daily saw a recent spike, prompting the Commissioner of Police to direct officers to become stricter with enforcing regulations to prevent the spread of the virus.
