Man charged with assaulting a police officer and hosting an illegal gathering claims police brutality

By BBN Staff: Norris Meighan, whose family gathering made national news earlier this week, ended up in a violent altercation with police, says he intends to file a complaint of police brutality.

Meighan, claims that when officers came to his house on Monday night, they put his 27-year-old son in a chokehold.

Meighan also stressed and commented on the possibility of a civil suit against the Belize Police Department as their family including him and his son’s have been a target of certain police officers for some time.

Meighan went to the Belize City court today, but was asked to return tomorrow as his court book had not been brought,

On Monday, several of Meighan’s family members were furious and threw pint bottles and cement blocks at members of the GI3 Unit (formerly the GSU) as they had come to break up the gathering. Meighan maintains he only had 15 people – 12 adults and 3 children,
