By Benjamin Flowers: Today the Aspire for Greatness Foundation announced that distributions from its backpack drive will be held on three separate dates in August.
The organization’s founder, media personality Orson Picart, said that the backpacks will be distributed as follows: August 13- Queen Square, August 15- Port Loyola, Jane Usher Basketball Court, August 18, Yabra Basketball Court.
Picart, speaking at a donation ceremony held at the Stationary House in Belize City today, said that the initiative launched on June 7, with the intention of providing school bags to 300 students from single-parent households on the south side of Belize City.
Apart from the donation made today by Giovanni Alamilla, owner of the Stationary House, which included some bags, as well as a discount on purchasing more bags, the foundation received 50 school bags from the Port of Belize Limited this week, as well as various donations from Belizeans at home and in the diaspora to reach its target.
“It’s not only that the students will have a knapsack, but it will also assist the parents in having one less thing to worry about for back to school,” Picart said.
