Health Minister keeps Hamid Awe on payroll after suspension rather than termination as he initially committed to

By Aaron Humes: Hamid Awe, San Ignacio resident, got himself and boss Health and Wellness Minister Michel Chebat in hot water back in May when he publicly remonstrated with police officers who had arrested his son for not wearing a mask in public.

Awe used his status as the Minister’s driver to basically challenge Police on their treatment of his son, which turned some people off.

It was serious enough that the Minister not only made him apologize to Police and offer his own apology, he fired him.

Except as the Minister told reporters this week, he had a change of heart about that: “My initial reaction was that he was to be fired. When I went further and learnt of everything that has happened and how it transpired, I realized that there is a flip side to the story and so we decided to go with a suspension. He was suspended two weeks without pay.”

The suspension has long since been served and the son was ticketed for his offence.
