“People, not property” – combating trafficking in persons

Posted: Tuesday, July 27, 2021. 8:50 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: This Friday is the annual observance of World Day against Trafficking in Persons under the theme, ‘Victims’ Voices Lead the Way.’

In Belize, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Council (ATIPS) in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will be launching its own awareness campaign in support of World Day against Trafficking in Persons entitled ‘People NOT Property!’

Governments, including Belize’s government, are being held to account by a people informed and rallied against the insidious risks of human trafficking and dedicated to reducing the number of victims of this practice.

Many are still suffering in various ways at the hands of their exploiters, and they can be helped out of that situation, mostly by reminding them of their humanity, not their worth and value to their so-called helpers.

To report Human Trafficking crimes call 911, Crime Stoppers Hotline (0-800-922-TIPS), or via P3 Tips App.
